Yesterday, we celebrated the 114th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence in New York City. Ner Martinez and Vivian Velasco, co-chairs of the Cultural Festival, invited me to host the event alongside Liz Casasola of Broadway Barkada. How could I say no to that?
The show was incredible. In spite of the occasional rainfall, all the entertainers gave such memorable performances, and the crowds mostly braved the elements.
Many talented performers were on hand to entertain the throngs of Filipinos who were in the city for the parade and other celebratory events. It was a star-studded affair, with GMA network bringing a few members of their roster of talents to the show. Dingdong Dantes, Rachelle Ann Go, and Aljur Abrenica performed during the GMA segment of the show.
Among the local talents were Broadway Barkada, Tiffany Viray, Gail Banawis, Kirby Asunto, Lianah Sta. Ana, Sounds of Manila, 14th Generation, and Zing Experience.
To cap off the event, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle (Broadway's Godspell) took the stage, followed by the Ryan Cayabyab Singers (one of whom is a fellow Kundirana alumnus--Vince Lim) accompanied by the legendary musician Mr. Ryan Cayabyab.
