We then learned that there was to be an "extreme open mic" event called Cast Party later in the evening, so we decided to stick around for it. I ended up entering my name on host Klea Blackhurst's list of performers, not really knowing the caliber of talent that I would be sharing the stage with!
A train of incredible performers took the stage (mostly accompanied by Tedd Firth on piano and Steve Doyle on bass) as I proceeded to consume my share (about half) of a bottle of Riesling and then chase that down two bottles of Blue Moon. When I was called to the stage, not only was I a bit tipsy, I was scared out of my mind! I thought, "how can I possibly follow a 14-year old Broadway singer-actress with perfect diction, or a 15-year old violin prodigy?!"
Before I knew it, the opening bars to "On Broadway" had started playing, and then I somehow started to sing off-key! Gasp! I wanted to just melt and slink away, but here's what happened after the initial two seconds (that felt like two hours of torture):
