With the help of Marisse Panlilio Entertainment and UNSRC-PCS (under the leadership of Ms. Emma Dumalag), we produced a successful dinner show at Payag restaurant in Woodside, NY on the evening of November 16th. The show was emceed by Ms. Mia Jose, and the dinner crowd was wrangled by Mr. Pete Obach, the manager of Payag. Ambassador Libran Cabactulan, incumbent Permanent Representative of the Philippine Mission to the UN delivered the welcome remarks. His spouse, Mme. Fe Cabactulan was among the audience members who enjoyed fine Philippine cuisine while taking in the musical numbers performed by our motley crew of artists.
We raised over $3,000 USD from ticket sales and donations at the Payag concert. The attendees also expressed that they were delighted by the show. UNSRC-PCS members were so impressed with the caliber of talents that night that they enthusiastically invited us to do an encore show at the UN. They gave us 2 weeks of lead time for the December 2 encore, which was done at the Dag Hammaskjöld Auditorium inside the United Nations headquarters in New York. The second concert brought our fundraising total to over $5,000 USD, all of which was donated to Gawad Kalinga foundation--a trusted NGO with a proven track record of volunteer-powered community building projects.
The road to recovery and reconstruction in the Philippines' central islands is long, but thanks to the outpouring of support from all over the world, the first steps toward renewal have been taken. I am deeply grateful to everyone who helped the #WeAreSurvivors initiative--my friends who donated their time and talents, our organizers and crew, the well wishers who cheered us on, and the donors whose money will now be used to rebuild the lives of the typhoon survivors in the islands collectively known as the Visayas.
Maraming salamat po!
